FLEXIBILITY IN DESIGN...SPRING HILL RESIDENCE

In the realms of Interior Design, flexibility is the name of the game at all times.

We were thrilled to be contacted by clients who had previously enlisted the workshop to craft a beautiful Art Deco style dining table for their Spring Hill residence.

Happy with the result and service, this couple with a love of fine art asked the design team of Colette and Cathie Venardos to lend a hand with their next dilemma.

"Both upstairs and downstairs living areas were starting to get a bit tired, and our lovely clients wanted to create more of a rich, inviting space with a moody atmosphere, whilst also complimenting their extensive art collection", says Cathie.  They also had some great quality existing furniture and so this particular job involved retaining those whilst working in new pieces to compliment.

...UPSTAIRS BEFORE...

               

The home had great architecture, and our clients had a penchant for Art Deco style. Cathie and Colette got to work taking into consideration the client wishlist, existing pieces and textures and architecture.

Firstly the upstairs rug was moved downstairs.

The perfect rug for the space was sourced, and created a starting point.

....AND AFTER!...

The armchair had great structure and lines, so was re-upholstered in a rich, luxurious fabric.

Warmer tones in blues and greys were introduced.

"Working with brick can be tricky sometimes", says Cathie "So we softened the space with warmer tones in blues and greys"  Over the fireplace the addition of a stunning hand carved mirror sourced from France truly adds the wow factor.

There was a bit of a swap around with the coffee table and side tables from upstairs being moved downstairs and utilised well there.

A new coffee table was crafted, curtains added and the existing ones used in another bedroom as they were still in great condition.

Existing upstairs sofas and armchairs were re-upholstered, which is the beauty of buy quality furniture from the start.

...AND AFTER!...

Downstairs the sofa and armchairs were replaced by new custom made (in Australia) product in a beautiful  colours and textures now lending itself to the mood and freshness that the client had expected.  A custom made ottoman looks great and adds to the comfort factor.

"With a lot of hard surfaces (tiles) it was important to keep it light and soft, so beautiful sheer drapes were a welcome addition" says Cathie

This is a space, previously avoided and now, utilised as a media/reading room/sanctuary.  Welcoming, fresh, and conducive to relaxation and enjoying the satisfaction of a long work week.

And so, what was once a home that was feeling a little tired is now oozing a more sophisticated ambience.

RAISING THE CURTAIN ON OUR DRAPERY SERVICE

Drapes can really make a room, but there are a few vital aspects which need to be considered before getting started.

ELEGANCE IN TEXTURE

This beautiful home is one of our latest design projects, and there will be a further blog story in the coming weeks showcasing our work.  

Beautiful in Blue-Grey

In this particular case, the clients left it to the design team of Colette and Cathie to choose the fabrics.

Imported Italian Sheers in Soft Mocha Grey

  After considering the existing furniture and rug in both areas, the girls chose a beautiful blue-grey fabric with very soft patterning detail for upstairs and a soft sheer in mocha grey for the downstairs area.

PRIVACY, FUNCTIONALITY AND A YEARNING FOR UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP!

Our client selected a beautiful fresh linen look after seeing curtains we had installed for her friend.  And so, she came into the showroom and chose something she really loved, giving her own personal stamp to the room.

After trying to sleep in a light-filled room, these shiftworking clients came to us for solutions and the result was not only functional but also gracefully stylish. 

Originally, timber blinds covered this space, but as there were doors that opened out onto a deck area from the bedroom, it made access inconvenient.  Timber blinds also did not give the kind of ambience required for a good nights sleep with too much broken light filtering through into the room.  And so, how to create a soft, fresh look which the bedroom favoured without appearing too heavy and oppressive.

A quality block-out fabric sits unobtrusively behind the sheer for use when necessary.

We received a message from the clients today - "Thank you so much for organising our curtains.  We love them!"   

And so with elegance and functionality aside...we think hubby is just happy to be finally getting some decent sleep!

Functional, Creative and Stylish...our Pinboards...the Best Way to Pin...Ever!

Pinboards are such handy things to have in your home!

A great spot for bills, reminders, photos, memorabilia and a whole lot more...lots of things are 'pinnable'.

BUT...we searched everywhere...high and low even for a pinboard with pizzazz.  We found lots of cork...lots of blah...boring boards.  There was nothing that would fit into the beautiful spaces that the design team creates.  The search was fruitless, so Cath came up with the idea of making one.  Most good ideas are borne from necessity....!

"I know!...lets make our own"...

The result?  A piece of art with functionality AND great looks (bit like George Clooney...)

Well, as these things go...one turned into two, turned into 10 as they started walking out the door.  More and more people started hearing about our boards, which is understandable because they are truly unique.

TENERIFFE APARTMENT - URBAN MAN CAVE

URBAN MAN CAVE

One of our absolute fave clients is moving!  But, not too far away thank goodness.

We loved collaborating with him on renovations to his urban apartment on the outskirts of the iconic Valley precinct of Brisbane, Teneriffe. 

This week, the apartment went up for sale and he kindly directed us to the real estate link (see below) for a gander at all his photos.

It was then that we realised what a hefty contribution Charcoal Interiors had made to its manifestation as a stylish urban man-space.  Warm, adhering to the original ambience and history of the iconic building in which it is housed and with such luxurious sophistication, the apartment is now just waiting for its new inhabitant.

In the meantime, we can show it off for him!

The study featuring upholstery projects by Charcoal Interiors and gorgeous feature chair, lamp.

Kitchen and Dining areas.  The Kitchen was a real labour of love for the owner.  Stunning imported tiles adorn the splashback areas.  Balloon dining chairs in classic style have added to the eclectic mix, perfectly balanced.

Another angle of the kitchen.  Loving how they kept the existing rawness of the beams.

Imported Parisian wallpaper, feature mirror, balloon dining chairs are just a few of his little purchases from us.  The design team loved the creative process with him.  It's easy to collaborate with someone who has an ingrained sense of style from the beginning. :-)

This is a bedroom that I wouldn't want to leave.  The Antique doors feature as a bedhead (clever).  Masculine and stylish.

The imported wallpaper covering melds well with the original brickwork which thankfully the owner decided to keep.  This room oozes urban sophistication.

And no walk in robe is complete unless it has a chandelier??..right?  Love, love this room.
